D400 catches the evening sun as it passes Oborne on 5 October 1991 with the 15:07 Exeter St David's to Waterloo relief service. This was its first day in traffic after being fitted with the power unit from withdrawn classmate 50048. After it was repainted into BR blue and renumbered as D400 earlier in the year I had made frequent trips to the West of England line to try to photograph it, but it managed to elude me for most of the time. This was not helped by the frequency with which it went bang during the year! |
