In typical Settle & Carlisle weather, with the clouds hanging low over the fells, D433 (50033) & D400 (50050) cross Smardale Viaduct with the 1Z42 Class 40 Appeal 06:58 Birmingham New Street to Glasgow Central 'Midland Scotsman' railtour on 5 February 1994. This was one of numerous Class 50 hauled railtours in early 1994, just before the class was finally withdrawn from traffic.
