This bold close up view of D444 gives a good indication as to what a Class 50 looked like when first introduced into traffic, with blanking plates covering the holes on the front end where multiple working cables would later be fitted. It is pictured passing Watersmeet (near Bishops Lydeard) on 19 September 1998 along with 50015 Valiant on the 16:00 Minehead to Bishops Lydeard service, during the West Somerset Railway's Diesel Gala.
