D8137 passes the site of the soon to be reinstated Hailes Abbey Halt on 8 October 2016, as it works the 2C59 11:45 Toddington to Cheltenham Racecourse service, during the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway's Diesel Gala. The original Hailes Abbey Halt was opened on 24 September 1928 by the Great Western Railway, who spelt it 'Hayles Abbey Halt'. It was for the use of visitors to the nearby ruins of the Cistercian Hailes Abbey, although it did involve a fair walk! It was closed in 1960, and by the time the line closed in the mid 1970s, there was nothing remaining. |
