W79978 Cirencester 26 October 2025

The train now standing at the platform is the delayed service from Kemble! The destination blind says it all, as AC Cars railbus W79978 stands at the remains of Cirencester Town station platform on 26 October 2025, on its own little short section of track, as it takes part in the Cirencester History Festival. This is 61 years after last railbus visited this spot. As can be clearly seen, most of the station site is now a car park. Two of the five AC Cars railbuses survive, although W79976 is in such a heavily stripped and damaged state, it likely that W79978 will be the only long term survival. The vehicle is operational, although as can be seen from the gaffer tape under the windscreens, there is still some work to be done.
