142082 & 143605 pass through Treforest Estate station on 6 October 2019 with the Branch Line Society 'Ffarwelio â Phacer Cymoedd Caerdydd' (Farewell to Cardiff Valley Pacers) railtour, which having just reversed at Pontypridd, was now running as the 1Z42 12:00 Pontypridd to Pontypridd (via Treherbert and Aberdare). Despite its historical significance, I didn't see anyone else photographing this tour, which didn't really surprise me, given the 'loco hauled freight only' philosophy of some photographers. However, I was confident there would be nobody here, as this tiny station is tucked away down a very narrow lane, and almost entirely hidden from view. It was opened by the Great Western Railway in 1942 to serve the industrial estate on the opposite side of the River Taff. The station is on higher level than the nearby lane, and the island platform is accessed by the subway seen here. |
