This unit was only a year old when this picture was taken, and the class was still quite a novelty on the network, which was still largely dominated by first generation diesel mechanical units. Some of the buildings of the once extensive Stanton Ironworks can be seen in the background on the right, whilst in the far distance is Ratcliffe Power Station.
