20127 passes Alton Manor (between Wirksworth and Idridgehay) on 22 April 1989 with the late running British Rail 1T15 14:42 Wirksworth to Derby 'Denby Dawdler' railtour. Hidden behind the tree is 20114. This was one of three mini-tours that ran on this day, on what was at the time still an active (just!) freight branch line. However, the line closed to stone traffic a few months later. Subsequently the line reopened as the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway heritage line, but unfortunately unobstructed views such as this are now at a premium, as there has been extensive lineside tree growth in recent years. |
