D8000 Bury Bolton Street 11 July 1998

D8000 was numbered 20050 when TOPS was introduced in the 1970s, as it couldn't possibly have been numbered 20000! In preservation it reverted to is original number. It seen here heading up an impressive array of classic traction at Bury Bolton Street station on 11 July 1998, during the East Lancashire Railway's Diesel Gala. The cavalcade comprises: 26004, 27001, D5500, 31162 & D345. D8000 was the first diesel locomotive delivered under the 1955 BR Modernisation Plan, entering service in June 1957. It cost the princely sum of £58,143!
