D8001 joins forces with Class 17 D8568 during the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway's Diesel Gala on 19 May 1996. An ironic pairing, as the Clayton Class 17 was introduction to solve the problem of the Class 20's single cab design. Unfortunately, whilst the visibility from the cab of a Class 17 was excellent, the loco's reliability certainly wasn't! Consequently, another batch of the ultra reliable Class 20s had to be built to replace the replacements! They are pictured approaching Horsenden Lane, rounding the curve from Thame Junction, the present northern terminus of the line, situated just out of sight behind the bushes to the right. The train has just run round there, and is now heading back to Chinnor. |
